Cinnamon Rolls with Cream Cheese Icing

For Dough:

  • 1 envelope of yeast
  • 1/4 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 cup whole milk (warm–not too hot)
  • 4 1/2 cups of all purpose flour (sifted)
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • vegetable oil
  • 1/2 stick butter softened

For Filling

  • 2 sticks of soft butter
  • 1 1/2 cups of brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of vanilla

For Icing:

  • 1 8 oz block of cream cheese
  • 1 teaspoon of milk
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of milk


  1. Warm (NOT BOIL) 1 cup of milk in small sauce pan. Once warm,remove from heat. Stir in yeast and 1/4 teaspoon of sugar. Let rest 5-10 minutues until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, beat 2 eggs. Add 1/2 stick butter and pour in yeast mixture.
  3. Add flour a little at a time. If your dough seems a little dry, just add a teaspoon of water.
  4. Add flour to a clean work surface. Place dough on work area and kneed the dough about 5 minutes.
  5. After kneeding, form dough into 1 big ball. Rub just a tiny bit of vegetable oil on the outside of the dough ball to keep it moist. Then grease a large, clean bowl and add the ball of dough and cover the bowl with clear wrap.
  6. Let the dough rest 1 hour in a warm place (TIP: For a warm area, I use my oven or microwave )

While your dough is resting, let’s make the roll filling and icing, or you can wash your dishes, that’s up to you child…moving along…

Roll filling:

  1. In a large bowl add butter, brown sugar and vanilla.
  2. Mix together until it forms like paste.
  3. Set to the side for later use.


  1. In a large bowl add cream cheese, milk, vanilla and confectioner sugar.
  2. Using a mixer, mix until creamy. (TIP: if you’d like your icing to be a little looser, just add a little milk)
  3. Set to the side for later use.

Back to the star of this recipe, THE DOUGH!

  1. Flour your work surface and your rolling pin.
  2. place dough on floured surface and roll dough out with rolling pin. (TIP: dont make it too thin. Also, it will not be in a perfect shape and that’s ok!)
  3. Once dough is rolled out to your liking add your roll filling. Spread all around–make sure you get the edges too—you want this yummy-ness all up and through there!
  4. HERE COMES THE FUN PART! Starting at the edge that is closest to you, roll the dough. Make it tight as possible.
  5. Using a knife cut the dough into rolls. Place the rolls in a dish that has been sprayed with non stick cooking spray. Make sure the rolls are touching.Let the dough rest for 20 mintues.
  6. Pre-heat your oven 350
  7. After dough has rested 20 mintues, bake your cinnamon rolls 20 mintues.
  8. Remove from oven and drizzle your cream cheese icing on top (TIP: you can top with chopped pecans)
